About the Event
If you have attended an LCMNA field trip in the last two months, please wait one week before registering to give other LCMNA members a chance to register. We thank you in advance for your kind cooperation.
Located in Okatie, Altamaha Town Heritage Preserve marks the site of an important Yemassee site. Join Destiney Rains, Naturalist for Beaufort County's Passive Parks, for a guided, leisurely walk through this beautiful preserve, comprised of mixed hardwood and maritime forest. During this program, you'll learn about local flora and fauna, as well as the history of the Yemasseee tribe that once occupied the area in the late 1600s to early 1700s. This walk will be about a mile and a half round trip on a flat, earthen trail.
For utmost enjoyment, attendees should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), bug protection, binoculars, and water. We will meet in the Preserve parking lot - look for Destiney's county vehicle and meet her there to fill out a waiver.
Note: There is no restroom on site, but there are opportunities to stop at gas stations on your way to the Heritage Preserve if needed.
