Tour of Waddell Mariculture Center and Fish Hatchery

Did you know that the Waddell Mariculture Center located near Bluffton, SC is one of the county's largest and most sophisticated facilities for mariculture research? Join Erin Levesque, Biologist and Manager at the Center, for a tour of this impressive facility, where you will see various life stages of fishes, from larvae to adults, and learn how the work being conducted at the hatchery is seeking to improve native fish populations in our local waterways. 

CLOSED-TOED SHOES ARE REQUIRED TO ENTER THE HATCHERY. All attendees are required to wear closed-toed shoes. Non-slip soles are encouraged. 

This tour will begin at the Turnure House on the bluff of the property. More than half of the program will be spent outdoors in the open sun, so please wear sunscreen, hats, and/or sunglasses. 

DIRECTIONS: Address is 211 Sawmill Creek Road, Bluffton 29910. Turn onto Sawmill Creek Road from 278 (across from Tanger Outlets). The entrance to our facility is 2.3 miles down Sawmill Creek on the left. There is a large sign and metal gates (gates will be open). Once you go through the gates simply follow the road until it ends at the river. We will begin on the lawn overlooking the Colleton River.
