About the Event
In this virtual/independent field trip, you will study the ecology of black water swamps. Spring in the swamp is a busy time of year! You'll learn about species you may encounter such as songbirds, snakes, and macro invertebrates. Then you'll visit Audubon Beidler Forest (Harleyville, SC). This location charges a small admission and is only open Th-Sat and requires pre-registration to visit (shouldn't be a problem to get a spot). This is the best and only example of old growth blackwater cypress swamp in the state. It is an AMAZING place to visit, especially in the spring. Master Naturalists may report your time spent completing this virtual field trip as Master Naturalist advanced training hours (not including travel time).
After registering, you will receive a link to join the google classroom and access the materials. You will need a google account to access the classroom (free to create if you don't already have one). The activities can be completed at any time.
