About the Event

If you have attended an LCMNA field trip in the last two months, please wait one week before registering to give other LCMNA members a chance to register. We thank you in advance for your kind cooperation.

Oysters might not look like they're doing much, but did you know they provide numerous important ecosystem services that we all benefit from? Come join the Outside Foundation for a fun-filled program where you will learn about our important native bivalves and play an active role in helping to support them by creating oyster bags that will produce living areas for future generations of wild oysters.

Attendees should arrive a few minutes early to complete a waiver.

For utmost enjoyment and SAFETY, participants are encouraged to wear closed toe shoes, long sleeves and pants, as well as sun protection gear. Gloves are provided or volunteers may bring their own. It’s always a good idea to bring a water bottle as bagging shells is work! If you cannot or should not lift (shell buckets and bags are 15-20 pounds) there are also jobs for cutting, counting, and tying the mesh bags.

We will meet at the Shell Bin/Oyster Bagging Site at the Coastal Discovery Museum. The recycling bin is located inside the Coastal Discovery Museum located at 70 Honey Horn Dr., Hilton Head. Once inside the gate take your first left, there will be a sign to direct you, and the wooden three sided bin is just on your left. The entrance to the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn is located off of Gumtree Rd. Take either Cross Island Pkwy or William Hilton Pkwy (278 BUS) to Gumtree Rd near where 278 splits.
