About the Event

In August 2023, the Georgia Department of Agriculture reported that a live yellow-legged hornet (YLH) was collected in Savannah. GA. This marked the first detection in the US. The YLH was soon detected in South Carolina on November 9th in Jasper County. The reason this is significant is because the YLH is a predatory insect that commonly feeds on other social bees and wasps, including western honeybees. The establishment of this exotic pest in the US poses a significant threat to our already embattled beekeeping industry. Our speaker will discuss what to look for and how to capture, kill and/or report YLH hives. We hope you can join us and learn about the awful Yellow Legged Hornet.
