In this self-directed advanced training, you will tour Donnelly Wildlife Management Area, a state-owned property. It's an excellent spot to do a driving tour and see a variety of habitats such as longleaf pine uplands, former rice impoundments, and wetlands.

About the Event
In this virtual/independent field trip, you will re-familiarize yourself with the landscape of the ACE Basin, which was shaped by rice farming several hundred years ago. You'll start out learning about alligators via Coastal Kingdom (the clip was filmed at Donnelly WMA, which you will visit for your field trip!) and a lecture by Dr. Ernie Wiggars of Nemour's Foundation about the impact of rice culture on the land (note - Nemour's is a private site, and can be visited only through organized programs, but the land history is very similar to Donnelly which is open to the public and also found in the ACE Basin). Then you'll go on a self-guided field trip to Donnelly where you'll get to bring many of the topics covered in the videos to life. Master Naturalists may report your time spent completing this virtual field trip as Master Naturalist advanced training hours (not including travel time).
After registering, you will receive a link to join the google classroom and access the materials. You will need a google account to access the classroom (free to create if you don't already have one). The activities can be completed at any time.
