About the Event

If you have attended an LCMNA field trip in the last two months, please wait one week before registering to give other LCMNA members a chance to register. We thank you in advance for your kind cooperation.

The uplands of our coastal plain were historically dominated by fire-adapted habitats, like long leaf pine savannahs. These days, such habitats are dwindling, but you can still visit them in places like the Donnelley WMA. Join Master Naturalist, Jeff Dennis, of Lowcountry Outdoors, for a guided tour of this exemplary, state-run wildlife management area. You will see the impacts of prescribed fire, marvel at native biodiversity, and hopefully see some wildlife along the way!  We will lunch after the tour concludes at 12:00 pm. Please bring a bagged lunch if you’d like to join!

For utmost enjoyment, participants should dress in close-toed shoes (hiking boots or shoes are best). In addition, attendees should bring with them binoculars, water, sun-protection (sunscreen, hats, sunglasses), bug protection, snacks, and, if desired, field notebooks.

We will meet at the at the Donnelly WMA Check Station (bathrooms available there). Allow 15 minutes of travel from the Donnelly gate to reach the check station. The station is located on Blocker Run Road, Green Pond, 29446. From Beaufort: Take US-17 N, turn right onto Donnelley Dr, turn left onto Blocker Run Road, check station is located in the open area.

Jeff is a Master Naturalist, private landowner and a lifelong birder. Read his blog at Lowcountry Outdoors.
