About the Event
Audubon Newhall Preserve is 50-acre forest found on Hilton Head Island with five preserved ecosystems showcasing native species of trees, shrubs, and flowers. Take an easy guided walk around the pond, birding as you go, along with a stopover at the pollinator gardens. There will be an emphasis on past cultural uses of the plants including for medicinal purposes. Following the walk, the group will stop at the pond overlook for a demo of teas, jams, and jellies that can be gleaned from the native plants we discover.
Your guide will be fellow Master Naturalist and Hilton Head Audubon member Debby Boots.
Bring binoculars, water, and dress for a trail walk. If so inclined, join the group for lunch at a nearby vegetarian restaurant.
