About the Event

Dr. Randy James is a long-time Lowcountry Master Naturalist. He is a Professor Emeritus with The Ohio State University, College of Food, Agriculture & Environmental Sciences. His Ph.D. is in soil chemistry. Through classroom discussions and walking tours, participants will learn about the Lowcountry natural environment, from the topsoil all the way down to the bedrock. Impacts of plants and animals will be explored, along with the vast variety of local soil types. There will be a discussion about the history of agriculture in the area and, of course, just how old is our dirt?

What should participants bring with them: Participants should wear comfortable outdoor shoes, a coat, and rain gear if needed. Bring water, bug spray, and sunscreen.
