About the Event

This program will be a guided walking and birding tour around portions of Bear Island WMA. The program will cover marsh/wading bird biology and conservation, marsh ecology, other coastal topics, and anything else spotted or heard along the path.

Leading us will be Evelyn Stevens an Associate Wildlife Biologist who has worked as a black rail and wading bird technician for SCDNR, sea turtle technician for GADNR and USFWS, and is currently a biology assistant at Congaree National Park.

Bear Island WMA has dirt/gravel roads so plan accordingly for comfortable outdoor footwear. Participants should also bring water, binoculars, camera if wanted, bug spray, anything else needed to be comfortable outside for a few hours, (hat, sunglasses, hand warmers if cold etc.).

The tour will require the ability to walk on unpaved roads in the outdoor elements around possible alligators, venomous snakes, etc. Bear Island WMA is free to enter but…
