About the Event
Join Juliana Smith for a beach combing excursion on Hunting Island. We will learn about beach ecology while examining the natural treasures we encounter on the beach. Juliana is a Lowcountry naturalist who’s been exploring and learning about our coastal plain habitats professionally for nearly a decade and extracurricularly since she was a kid. For six years, she led ecology tours and educational programs on Kiawah Island as a naturalist and education coordinator. In 2019, she moved to Beaufort to work for a non-profit conservation league and now serves the County as the long-range planner. You can still join her for birding excursions monthly at the Wild Birds Unlimited in Beaufort or bump into her in the field admiring native orchids and wildflowers.
Dress for the weather - bring layers since it may be breezy and cool on the beach! Wear shoes you don't mind getting sandy and/or wet. Bring a reusable water bottle and sunscreen, hat, etc. Meet in Parking Lot A. Note that there is an admission fee to Hunting Island.
