About the Event
We'll begin with some activities to help you better understand our place in the cosmos. Then, we'll turn our gaze skyward to star-hop through the Winter Hexagon. Hear myths and legends associated with these constellations, including Orion, Taurus, Gemini, Canis Major, Canis Minor, and Auriga as well as observe the visible planets and learn about astronomical phenomena.
Bring binoculars, a blanket or comfortable chair you can recline in, a small flashlight (with red light if you have it), and DRESS WARMLY! This program will take place completely outdoors with plenty of room for social distancing. Bring a mask with you if you need to go into the classroom to use the restroom.Â
This program will be led by Sky Rangers Marie McClune and Kristen Marshall Mattson. Marie is a former Earth-science and geology teacher, astronomy buff, and fellow MN. Kristen is an environmental educator and one of the co-instructors of the LowCountry Master Naturalist program.Â
