About the Event
Robert Carter returned to Rock Hill after a career as a college professor in Alabama. He has degrees from Clemson and NC State with a Ph.D. from Auburn University. He joined Clemson as a Natural Resources Extension Agent in 2024. His research primarily focuses on ecology and ethnobotany. He recently published “Catawba Nation Ethnobotany.”
For woody plants and some herbaceous plants, winter is a great time for plant identification. Twigs are less variable than leaves, so they provide an excellent way to identify plants. Learn key characteristics to observe when examining twigs, buds, leaf and stipular scars, and bark. You will feel like one of the early naturalists as you use the seemingly useless to identify plants. As naturalists, we also will observe whatever startlements we encounter.
What should participants bring with them: Hand lens, field notebook, binoculars to observe fruit, pencil, water, and dress for the weather.
Cost: $35 nonrefundable
