About the Event
In this virtual/independent field trip, you will explore the Edisto River and its estuary. You'll start out learning the history and natural history of the landscape as you move virtually from the headwaters of the river to the mouth of St. Helena Sound. Then, use an interactive water quality website to explore why water quality parameters have such a big impact on estuary health. Afterwards, visit the Edisto Nature Trail in Jacksonboro, SC. Spring is an excellent time to go because the water level is down as the trees leaf out, songbird migration is in full swing, and the mosquitoes are not yet swarming. Use the self-guided field trip and the Merlin app to identify songbirds and wetland plants as you study the landscape.
After registering, you will receive a link to join the google classroom and access the materials. You will need a google account to access the classroom (free to create if you don't already have one). The activities can be completed at any time.
